DR. A. S. M. MAKSUD KAMAL

Professor and Pro-Vice Chancellor

Professor DR. A. S. M. MAKSUD KAMAL is now serving as a Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic) at University of Dhaka. He joined the Department of Geology University of Dhaka as a lecturer in 2000. Prior to this, he worked as a scientific officer of Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARSO) for six years and as a research fellow and researcher at Dhaka University Bose Center. He was appointed as a professor in 2010. From 2012, he was the founding chairman of the Department of Disaster Science and Management under the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences and, successfully served as chairman till 2017. He passed B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc in 1st class from Geology Department of Dhaka University. Subsequently, he received a Master's degree in Applied Engineering Geology from the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), a famous space science institution at the University of Twente in the Netherlands, and obtained a Doctor of Engineering degree in Earthquake Engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan in 2004. He has published over fifty scientific articles in national and international peer-reviewed/impact factor journals and numerous policy-making reports under his direct supervision in various public and private organizations at the national level. He is also serving as a member of the Editorial Board of several local and foreign journals. He has been appointed as a visiting professor at the world renowned University College of London (UCL), UK from 2 April 2022 to March 2027. Professor DR. A. S. M. MAKSUD KAMAL has worked as a technical lead advisor or expert member on numerous projects for different government agencies, including UNDP offices in Iran and UNDP/CDMP, Bangladesh. He has collaboration and research projects with reputed universities of different countries of the world (Japan, China, UK etc.).

Mr. Mohammad Abdul Wazed

This was a multi-sectoral project involving agriculture input and livestock distribution to the beneficiaries, plantation on the coastal strip, construction of cyclone shelters, re-construction of polders and embankments, educational institutions, water management through small irrigation, health and sanitation coverage and distribution of loan through banks for ultimate recovery. Worked as District Research Manager in the Operations Project of ICDDR, B on Rural Child and Maternal Health and Family Planning. DR. MD. ZILLUR RAHMAN

Professor & Chairman

Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman is a Professor and the Chairman of the Department of Disaster Science and Climate Resilience, and the Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering, specialization in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Canada. He completed his M. Sc. in Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation, specialization in Geological Engineering at ITC, University of Twente, Netherlands. He obtained his B. Sc. (Honors) and M. Sc. in Geology from University of Dhaka. His research interests lie in the fields of Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering, Engineering Geophysics, Engineering Seismology, and GIS & Remote Sensing. He has been awarded several scholarships and fellowships during his studies in University of Dhaka, ITC, and University of British Columbia. Prior to joining this department, he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Geology, University of Dhaka. He had the privilege to work for more than 8 years as an Engineering Geologist in Geological Survey of Bangladesh (GSB) where he acquired the basic professional experience in the fields of Geology and Engineering Geology. He worked as a Local Coordinator of Eurasian University Network for International Cooperation in Earthquakes (EU-NICE) funded by Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Partnership (EMA2) and coordinated by the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.
